A. The Whatcom Warriors Lacrosse Club is a team comprised of high school students living in the Bellingham and Ferndale School Districts. We compete against teams from Whatcom County as well as teams residing the greater Seattle area. We belong to the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association Division II Conference. The team is divided into both a Varsity and Junior Varsity team. With approximately 40 players on the team this year, this allows for growth through actual play time.
Q. Who can join the Whatcom Warriors Lacrosse Club?
A. We are governed by the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association (WHSBLA). The WHSBLA determines what the boundaries are for each team. We are a combination of Bellingham and Ferndale School Districts. This also includes any student who is attending home school, online school or any other approved alternative school as long as the student resides within the Bellingham and Ferndale School District boundaries.
A. Club Teams are private organizations not affiliated with any specific school or school district. We use the pre-determined geographic boundaries determined by the School Districts simply as an organizational tool. We are not affiliated with the Districts......yet!
Q. What are the registration dues used for?
A. About 23% of our dues cover costs of the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association League and referee fees, about 34% covers the costs of coaches, training, and administration, 22% is for field space and other rental charges; and 21% covers equipment, uniforms, and other supplies.
Q. Why do we need fundraisers if we are already paying registration dues?
A. Our budget projections are based on actual costs of previous years. So, the registration dues are an educated guess as to what the actual costs and the actual realization of fundraisers will be. In addition to these calculations, we are in a growth phase and as such, we are gradually adding needed uniforms and equipment as required.
Q. Where do games and practices take place?
A. The practices take place at several locations. These locations are listed on the Whatcom Warriors website calendar and should be checked periodically. To check the calendar click here. Games are also held at various locations in Whatcom County, Skagit County and the Seattle area. In addition to the schedule found on our website (click here), you can also check the schedules on the Sportability Website through WHSBLA. To see the game schedule for the Varsity team click here. To see the game schedule for the Junior Varsity Team click here.
Q. When is Lacrosse Season?
A. This season officially started on February 27 with practice 6 times the first week. Our first games for both Varsity and Junior Varsity are schedule for March 13. The JV will be playing at 5:00 at Skagit River Park. The Varsity will be playing at 7:00 at Glacier Peak High School in Snohomish. Our final League games will both be played on May 5. The Play-Offs will be the next two weeks in May with the Championship Games being polayed on May 26.
Q. What equipment is needed to play lacrosse?
A. Boys need a helmet, shoulder pads, arm guards, a stick, cleats, an athletic support and cup and a mouth guard. Your player will not be allowed to play without a mouth guard.
Q. Where can I purchase this equipment?
A. There are many options as to where this equipment can be purchased. We don't have a local resource yet with a complete array of lacrosse equipment. Most players purchase their equipment online. I have found many good deals at www.lacrossemonkey.com, but there are many other options as well. However, before you purchase equipment, contact the Whatcom Warriors Board by emailing warriorslax.wa@gmail.com There may be some used equipment available if your student is just starting.
Q. Will my child get injured playing lacrosse?
A. Any competitive sport DOES result in injuries. Boys lacrosse rules allow contact at the High School level. Injury rates are similar to soccer for comparison purposes.
Q. Who do I contact if I have a question, comment or complaint?
A. If it is specific to your player's team, we urge you to contact the coach or assistant coach(es). If it specific to the club, or you feel a team issue needs to be addressed by the board, you can email warriorslax.wa@gmail.com These emails go the board and will be directed to the appropriate board member or coach accordingly. You may also certainly speak directly to any board member or coach at the games. There will be board members present at every game. An updated list of the board members will be posted on this blog very soon!
